London, August 08 (ANI): Elizabeth Hurley's former father-in-law Vinod Nayar has blamed the actress' 2007 big fat wedding with his son Arun as one of the reasons behind his own break up with his wife.
Indian textile tycoon Vinod, 71, claimed in his divorce petition that his British-born wife Joan, 60, attempted to profit from her stepson's high profile romance and glittering wedding.
He accused Joan of selling an interview about the pair, appearing on TV to discuss the relationship and signing as an ambassador for a luxury jewellery brand, The Sunday Times reported.
The India Times reported that the divorce papers claimed, "The petitioner (Vinod Nayar) had learnt that the respondant (Joan Nayar) cashed in on becoming the step-mother of Ms Elizabeth Hurley".
Vinod elaborated on his allegations, saying his wife's behaviour indicates her "money-minded nature".
He claimed that his wife's behaviour angered beautiful Hurley, who is now dating Australian cricketer Shane Warne.
Because of her "behaviour" Nayar claimed that an upset Hurley did not want Joan at the British part of the couple's wedding or at the second traditional Indian part of the nuptials, held in Jodhpur.
Vinod claimed that the frostiness over the interviews about the wedding "split the family relationship and things went sour.
He also accused his wife of deliberately trying to mortify him and his family by selling a story to a UK tabloid in 2010.
"She wanted to embarrass the petitioner's family and her main aim was monetary gain from the story, for which she was paid 75,000 pounds," the Daily Mail quoted him as claiming.
However, Joan has strenuously denied the allegations, claiming it was in fact Vinod who orchestrated the publicity around the glamorous wedding. (ANI)
