'Spy agencies tapping Pak female NA members' phones'

Islamabad , Sun, 07 Aug 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Aug 7 (ANI): Female legislators of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) and the Awami National Party (ANP) have complained that their phones were being tapped by spy agencies.

PML-Q MNA Nosheen Saeed and ANP MNA Bushra Gohar said that their phone conversations were being tapped by spy agencies, The Dawn reports.

"No one has the right to secretly tap phone conversations of National Assembly members," Saeed said, adding that she has informed the party leadership about the issue.

Gohar has also registered a complaint with the speaker office against tapping of her phone by law enforcement agencies.

They had also complained earlier that the government was not paying much heed to complaints about their phones getting tapped.

Gohar alleged that despite raising the issue during a meeting of the House Standing Committee on Interior about six weeks back, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority chairman refuted the charges, adding that even the government is not paying heed to their complaints.

On being asked if she knew that her phone was being tapped, Gohar said: "Initially, I was told by a few friends and later I confirmed through various sources that it was being done." (ANI)
