Let's Continue Walking- Shall we?

New Delhi, Sat, 09 Feb 2008 Diana BenAvides

Busy? Coming and going? Running around perhaps? If it helps you to know- life isn’t supposed to be a straight path. Come with me- let’s walk in confidence over the threshold that we think we would never cross. I won’t let go- we’ll learn and grow as we go. No matter how fast we think we are going- we can’t cheat life. We know there are not short cuts in this walk. I probably have more questions than answers- but together we are about to realize that we were born to be great! And that our habitual thoughts are not engraved on stone- unless we want them to be. Even if we have the most dogmatic beliefs we can be adaptable to new and different approaches. Let’s continue walking- shall we?

I am wondered and inspired by Seneca’s words “You want to live- but do you know how to live? You are scared of dying- and tell me, is the kind of life you lead really any different from being dead?” A story tells about two men who went into the forest to chop as many trees as possible in one day for a contest. One of the men would pause and take the time to sharpen his ax through intervals in the day. On the other hand, the other man would just continue chopping without interrupting his work. At the end of the day- the man who took the time to sharpen his ax was the winner! Do you see the purpose in our walk? Yes! You guessed it- it is an even broader journey into our consciousness. When was the last time we stopped to sharpen our thoughts, ideals, principles, values, direction, purpose, needs and wants in our life? Let’s continue walking- shall we?

The end of the tunnel isn’t always as far away as it seems- if we can only stand still in the peace and quiet of our inner being. Only then we can find our feet on solid ground- for sure, we’ll feel more empowered than exhausted at the end of our walk. Let’s seduce our mind with the vision of self-worth and be armed with courage to face change! We must understand that there is no security in this life but opportunities! We already know that life is not a straight path- it has ups and downs. And what really matters is how we bounce between them. We also know the only constant in life is change- and the first sign of change is an in-and-out deconstruction. Yes! We need to fall apart- to become anew! Let’s continue walking- shall we?

Now, the challenge is not in going through the fear of change- but rising above it! And the only way we can achieve this is by empowering our variables- variables? Yes! They are our essence, faith, hopes, confidence, self-worth, attitude, and thoughts. See, we should be grateful for our challenges, troubles, problems and issues- we can make them the stepping stones that we need to bounce between ups and downs in life- if we change our perception of them into opportunities! But we can only see opportunities when we take the most important voyage of all- inward! When we rise ourselves above our sorrows and troubles- contemplation takes us to action! It is during contemplation that we connect and renew our power from the Creator- so we can heal, examine and meditate the purpose of our life and the new direction we must walk. We should have firm convictions- but it is always wise to leave room for questioning. We must walk by faith to make it through the trials of life- but it is always wise to be prepared to lose and leave some battles behind. Life has thorns to make us better and not bitter indeed- that is an extra load we don’t need in our walk.

I need to rest. For now, this is the end of our walk.

It is dark now- I must had fallen asleep. I look around- and I am alone. Then I realize- it was only a dream. I dreamed that you and I went for a walk- we learned and grew together. It was an amazing walk!
