Islamabad, July 31 (ANI): Top Afghan, Pakistani and the U. S. diplomats are poised to meet in Islamabad on Tuesday to push the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.
Xinhua quoted Pakistan's Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement that U.S. Special Representative Ambassador Marc Grossman, Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Jawid Lodin and Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Salman Bashir, along with representatives of the military and intelligence belonging to the three countries will participate in the meeting.
The announcement of the trilateral meeting to be held in Pakistan has come at a time when the U.S. has started withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan, and the process is scheduled to be completed by 2014.
Reports suggest that NATO forces have already transferred security responsibility to Afghan forces in five areas.
In recent days, the Taliban has increased its attacks on foreign and Afghan forces and government officials, and had also claimed responsibility for the killing of Afghan President Hamid Karzai's brother.
Despite being urged by Karzai to come forward for the peace and reconciliation process, the militant outfit has reportedly rejected the proposal. (ANI)
