Pak calls on India to work together for regional peace

Islamabad, Fri, 15 Jul 2011 ANI

Islamabad, July 15(ANI): Pakistan National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi has stressed that India and Pakistan should make joint efforts for regional peace and progress.

He also stressed the need for regular interaction between the political leadership and the people of both countries and to build the bridges of understanding and friendship between the two nations.

He also called for the resolution of longstanding issues between both countries through dialogue, the Daily Times reports.

His statement came in a meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Sharat Sabharwal.

Kundi also condemned blasts that shook Mumbai, saying some "hidden hands" were trying to disrupt peace and stability in the region.

Kundi said since both countries were tied in bonds of history and culture, therefore, Pakistan desires to have cordial relations with India.

Sabharwal agreed with Kundi and said that the Indian Government also wanted to have cordial relations with Pakistan.

He said that the recent engagement of diplomats of both countries had set out a comprehensive agenda for future consultations.

Sabharwal was convinced that relations between the two countries were moving in the right direction due to the confidence building measures taken by both the governments.

Both diplomats agreed for regular interaction between parliamentarians of India and Pakistan. (ANI)
