New Delhi, Jul 8 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday restrained the seven-member committee from opening the vaults of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Kerala, where a treasure trove worth over one lakh crore rupees was discovered recently.
A bench of Justices R V Raveendran and A K Patnaik asked the petitioner Raja Rama Varma, the erstwhile Prince of Travancore, and the Kerala government to come out with appropriate suggestions for ensuring sanctity and security of the temple.
The apex court while restraining the opening of vault (B) and also the vault (A) posted the matter for further hearing on next Thursday.
Senior counsel K K Venogopal, appearing for the erstwhile prince, clarified that the temple was a public property and no member of the royal family claims any ownership or right over the huge property.
He told the bench that the property belongs to Lord Padmanabhaswamy.
Earlier, the apex court had ordered videography of the Rs. 90,000 crores worth of treasure found at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Kerala.
It also proposed the appointment of a curator of a museum to preserve the treasure being unearthed from the 16th-century old temple located in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram shot into fame as the richest in the country after wealth, including jewels and gold, were found there in vaults sealed for over 150 years.
A total of six vaults were found, with two more vaults of wealth discovered later.
The four vaults that were opened in the temple first revealed wealth valued around Rs. 90,000 crore. (ANI)
