Kapil Sibal on steps to promote Sindhi language

New Delhi, July 1(ANI): The first meeting of the re-constituted council of National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language (NCPSL) was held today under the Chairmanship of Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal.

 

NCPSL Vice-Chairman Ramesh Warylani was also present at the meeting.

 

The council was re-constituted on May 18 for a period of three years.

 

The objective of the council is to promote, develop and propagate Sindhi language.

 

Schemes of bulk purchase, awards to Sindhi writers, financial assistance to voluntary organizations for promotional activities relating to Sindhi language, financial assistance for publication and Sindhi language learning courses are implemented by the council.

 

The minister agreed in principle to increase the award money for lifetime achievement awards from 50,000 to 1,00,000 rupees given to Sindhi writers for his/her outstanding lifetime contribution in the Sindhi literature and for literary awards from 30,000 to 50,000 rupees given to deserving writers in recognition of their contribution in the field of Sindhi literature.

 

A demand was made by council members to open a Sindhi centre in Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

 

In the meeting it was decided that a proposal in this regard would be sent by NCPSL to Human Resource Development Ministry. (ANI)
