Shirdi (Maharashtra), June 30 (ANI): Treating patients for their various health problems has been a practice at the Shri Satya Saibaba Sansthan in Shirdi, Maharashtra, ever since the times of Saibaba in the latter half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.

Over a century ago, the Saibaba use to distribute "Udi" or "Holy Ash" to patients to cure them of their health problems. In the 21st century, the Shri Satya Saibaba Sansthan is pursuing the same cause of providing good healthcare to devotees and other patients at its Shri Saibaba Super Speciality Hospital and the Shri Sainath Hospital.

The super speciality hospital has set a record of sorts - that of conducting 10, 517 cardia-related surgeries from 2006 to February 2011.

Of these surgeries, 6,800 have been angioplasty, 2,385 by-pass surgeries and 1,295 valve replacement surgeries.

The Sansthan spent Rs.60 crores in 2006 to build the super-speciality hospital, which includes state-of-the-art machinery such as a C.T. Scan and MRI machine delivered by Siemens.

It has a medical fraternity that can be comparable to the best in the health sector. Among its faculty are Dr. Aniruddha Dharmadhikari, Dr. Manoj Chopra, Dr. Vinod Vijan, Dr. Abhaysingh Walia and others.

The nearly five-decade old Shri Sainath Hospital (set up in 1964) attends to over 1000 OPD patients. The economically poor patients are given Rs.20, 000 each for brain, kidney, cancer and bypass surgery.

Between April 2010 and February 2011, 2, 473 patients have received financial aid. The total amount paid during this period is nearly Rs. 4.12 crores.

This hospital too has a team of expert doctors in attendance and well-trained nursing staff.

The hospital has three kidney dialysis machines, two artificial respirators, a line cure system for the dental department, ultra-sonic scale and baby incubators.

The Shri Sainath Hospital also organises social projects like free eye and surgery camps, and also has a well equipped blood bank.

The Shri Saibaba Sansthan spends Rs.45 crores annually on the hospitals. (ANI)
