New Land Acquisition Bill will favour the farmers, says Moily

New Delhi , Tue, 28 Jun 2011 ANI

New Delhi, June 28 (ANI): Union Law and Justice Minister M. Veerappa Moily has said that the new Land Acquisition Bill will be in the interest of the farmers whose lands were acquired illegally or by force in the past.

Talking to reporters here on Monday, Moily said: "The new Land Acquisition Bill will support all those farmers whose lands were allotted to India's auto major Tata Motors by the erstwhile West Bengal government ruled by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) for building an automobile manufacturing unit at Singur."

"I must tell you, the Land Acquisition Act which has now come over, will not give rise to any more Singurs or any of these. It will definitely take care of the aspirations of the land losing people," he added.

Moily further said that the Land Acquisition Bill would also be an answer for any land issue being raised in Supreme Court.

"Now, to be very frank we have once finalised the more than 50 year old, Act of the Land Acquisition. Now we know that the present Bill which is proposed now will answer many questions. Questions even raised by the Supreme Court," added Moily.

Reacting to the rising crime graph in Uttar Pradesh, he observed that the state government should not be mute spectator and must take some strict actions against all the accused.

" Law and Order is the concern of the state government. I think if they don't rein over this thing, it will be very bad and it will be reflected very bad and I don't think the government of UP should be mute spectator to all these problems I believe," he said. (ANI)
