Allahabad, June 24 (ANI): Politics over the mysterious death of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr YS Sachan in a Lucknow jail continued on Friday, with the opposition questioning the Mayawati Government's silence and demanding a CBI probe into the case.
Samajwadi Party (SP) state president Akhilesh Yadav today visited Sachan's residence.
Talking to reporters after meeting him, Yadav reiterated that only a CBI inquiry into the issue would expose the real culprits.
"We demand a CBI probe into the matter, as the state government and its officers are trying every trick to hush up the case, which is connected to the chief minister's office," he added.
On Thursday, Samajwadi Party (SP) activists took to streets demanding a CBI inquiry into the case, which has sparked off a political battle in UP.
Meanwhile, Dr Sachan's family has moved the Allahabad High Court after a postmortem report confirmed their claims that the late doctor was murdered.
The family also said that Dr Sachan's body would not be cremated until a CBI enquiry is ordered into his death.
Sachan, who was serving a jail term for the murder of Chief Medical Officer (Family Welfare) B P Singh, was found dead in the Lucknow District Jail Hospital's toilet on Wednesday evening.
His body was found hanging in the bathroom with a belt around his neck. P police declared it to be a case of suicide.
Sachan was arrested in April this year following the murder of BP Singh for his alleged involvement in the irregularities in the implementation of National Rural Health Mission.
The STF had on June 17 arrested three persons - Ram Krishna Verma, Anand Tewari and Vinod Sharma - who had confessed to the crime and named Sachan as the main conspirator.
Sachan's name was also linked to the murder of another CMO (Family Welfare) Vinod Kumar Arya, who was shot dead in October last year. (ANI)
