Lucknow, June 21 (ANI): With the sudden spurt in crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh shocking the nation, the State Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Mayawati Government and different district officials, and sought a reply from them by June 28.
The State Human Rights Commission has fixed June 30 as the next date of hearing.
According to reports, the Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the rape cases in different districts in recent past, and has sought a reply from the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Home, Director General of Police (DGP), District Police Chiefs of Kannauj, Lalitpur, Firozabad and Gorakhpur asking them to submit a detailed report about the recent incidents of rape and action taken in each case.
As many as eight incidents of rape have been reported from various districts of the state in the last 48 hours.
Meanwhile, a fresh incident of rape has been reported from Uttar Pradesh's Bagpat District, where the 17-year-old daughter of a CRPF jawan committed suicide this morning after being raped by her friend's relatives.
The incident took place last evening, when the girl had gone to her friend's residence for sewing classes. She was allegedly raped by two of her friend's brothers, who were present there.
The post-mortem report of the deceased is expected by this evening.
Uttar Pradesh is on high alert following the recent rape cases.
In yet another shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh, a 35-year old married woman was allegedly gang raped by five men and then set on fire in Etah district late on Sunday night.
On Saturday, two rape cases were reported from the state that included alleged rape on a minor, who was also stabbed in the eye for resisting rape. In another case, a man in Ranipur, Beladi village, allegedly raped a Dalit girl at gunpoint. (ANI)
