Gangtok , Mon, 20 Jun 2011 ANI

Gangtok, June 20 (ANI): Both the central and state governments are leaving no stones unturned in developing rural areas in the eight northeastern states, as they accommodate a large part of the population of the region.

Taking a step towards prosperity, Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling is visiting as many villages in the state these days.

During his 40-day-long journey, Chamling aims to assess development taking place at Ground Zro during the past 18 months.

Chamling being accompanied by the heads of all state departments, besides his Cabinet colleagues whom he feels should see for themselves the ground realities.

Chamling is took stock of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the construction of school buildings, drinking water supply and many more projects that are not completed till date.

"I want to solve the problems of the people. It is my duty to finish the incomplete projects and works in the state. As the people are the owners of the government, so I decided that I should go to them and listen to their problems and solve them," he said.

Scores of people in different villages waited for their chief minister with Khadas or traditional scarves in their hands.

Many put forward their issues, while others just wanted a glimpse of their leader.

"This government should be good for us, I have come here to know about the politics and want to learn politics, and with the coming of the chief minister, I think there would be changes in our village," said Navin Rai, a local.

"I like his political views and he has done quite lot of development in his 18 years in government, he has brought industries and industrialisation, he has given employment to the unemployed," added another local Pratap Subba. (ANI)
