Minor girl blinded after a failed rape attempt in Uttar Pradesh

Kanpur, June 19(ANI): A minor girl belonging to a scheduled caste has been left blinded following a failed rape attempt in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district.he victim, Preeti, aged 13, was on her way home on Saturday when two men attacked her.

 

"They (accused) tried to disgrace me. One of the attackers held my hand and beat me. Then they damaged my eyes with a knife. The pain was so extreme that I could have died on the spot," the victim said.

 

Preeti is currently being treated at a hospital in Kanpur.

 

Both her eyes are badly injured, but she is believed to be stable.

 

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against the accused in Gursahayaganj Police Station.

 

Rajendra Singh, the Superintendent of Police for Kannauj, briefed the mediapersons that as the rape failed, the accused injured her eyes with a knife so that the victim could not name them.

 

"Both parties (the victim and the accused) belong to the backward caste. The boys tried to rape the girl, but when they failed, they damaged her eyes. One of the eyes is badly damaged and the other one is also wounded. A case has been filed in the police station and further action would be taken accordingly," Singh said. (ANI)
