Islamabad, June 18(ANI): Pakistan has issued a demarche to Afghanistan over this week's cross-border militant attack in Bajaur Agency.
"The Afghanistan Charge d' Affaires, Mr. Majnoon Gulab was summoned to the Foreign Office. A strong demarche was lodged with him on the incident, which took place at 0420 hours on 16 June 2011, during which 100-150 terrorists crossed the border with Afghanistan and attacked three Pakistani villages in the Bajaur sector," the Foreign Office said in a statement.
"The cross-border incursion resulted in the Shahadat [martyrdom] of 5 civilians (including 3 males and 2 females) and one Frontier Scout, and 3 civilians (females) were injured," it added.
The Foreign Office said it conveyed the Pakistan Government's "serious concern" over this matter to the Afghan Charge d' Affaires.
"The Government of Afghanistan was asked to prevent such cross-border incidents from occurring in the future," it added.
Earlier this month, Afghan Ambassador Umar Daudzai was summoned to Pakistan's Foreign Office, where Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir raised concerns over the cross-border attack on a checkpoint in Dir district.
"The Foreign Secretary has conveyed to the Ambassador of Afghanistan strong concern on the cross-border attack launched from the territory of Afghanistan in Dir by some 300-400 militants who attacked villages and burnt schools," the Foreign Office said in a statement on June 2.
"The Foreign Secretary stressed the need for stern action by the Afghan Army, US and NATO/ISAF forces in the area against militants and their hideouts in Afghanistan and against organizational support for the militants," it added. (ANI)
