Lucknow, June 17 (ANI): The crime branch of the Uttar Pradesh Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will on Friday submit its report on the status of the probe into the murder and alleged rape of a minor girl within the compound of Nighasan police station in Lakhimpur District.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday directed the Uttar Pradesh Government to submit a status report on the CB-CID probe or any other investigation into the case.
The verdict of the court came on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking direction for a CBI probe into the case.
The petitioner has also sought a direction for paying compensation of Rs. 25 lakh to the family of the 14-year-old girl and for dismissal of the police personnel, whose name has come up in light in this case.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had earlier ordered the suspension of a police officer over serious lapses in handling of this case.
Lakhimpur-Kheri Superintendent of Police (SP) D.K. Rai has been transferred. Four policemen - Constable Ram Chandra Kumar, Sub-Inspector BK Singh, Constable Uma Shanker and Constable Shiv Kumar - have been arrested on charges of tampering of evidence.
The second autopsy conducted on the minor girl's body, which was found hanging from a tree within the compound of Nighasan police station in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur District on the night of June 10, on Tuesday confirmed that the victim was murdered.
According to the second autopsy report, the girl was strangled and died of asyphxia.
Missing since June 10 evening, 14-year-old Sonam was found hanging from a tree inside the premises of Nighasan Police Station. The victim's mother in her complaint had alleged that the girl was raped and murdered. (ANI)
