London, June 2(ANI): Brit-Indian millionaire Shrien Dewani's battle to beat extradition has been given a boost, as the trial of two men accused of murdering Anni Dewani in South Africa has been delayed after one of them fell ill.
Xolile Mngeni and Mziwamadoda Qwabe were due to appear at Wynberg Court, Cape Town.
However, the court was told that Mngeni had a brain illness and was admitted to a prison hospital.
The opening of the trial has now been adjourned until June 13, The Sun reports.
South African authorities had hoped that details would emerge in court to help their case to have Dewani hauled back from the United Kingdom for trial.
Dewani's 28-year-old wife, Anni, was shot dead after gunmen hijacked the couple's taxi while they were on their honeymoon in South Africa in November last year.
South African police claim that the 31-year-old paid the men to kill Anni during the staged hijacking.
Taxi driver Zola Tongo claimed in a plea bargain that Dewani offered him cash to arrange the two hitmen.
Dewani and Tongo were ejected from the cab and Dewani was driven off and killed.
Tongo has been sentenced to 18 years in jail for murder, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances and perverting the course of justice.
Dewani denies any wrongdoing and is fighting extradition.
Qwabe and Mngeni are charged with murder, kidnapping and robbery with aggravating circumstances. (ANI)
