New Delhi, May 26 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday quashed the land allotment to former India skipper Sourav Ganguly by West Bengal Government in 2000 and has asked him to surrender the 63.04 'katha' land within two weeks.
Earlier, the apex court had questioned the way a Salt Lake plot was allotted to Ganguly to set up a school and also slammed the state government for sending officials to his residence to get the paperwork for the land transfer done.
Ganguly had initially been allotted a 48-cottah plot in the township's BF block to set up an ICSE school.
But since the rules of the Delhi-based council mandated a minimum of 60 cottahs for affiliation, the cricketer pleaded with state urban development minister Asok Bhattacharya to hand him a 62-acre plot in CA block.
The apex court has now asked Ganguly to return the plot of land within a month, and simultaneously asked the West Bengal Government to refund a sum of Rs 63 lakhs that the former cricketer paid for the acquired land
It also rejected Ganguly's plea that he was being targeted because of his statue in society.ANI)
