Bhopal, May 21(ANI): Around 15 people were injured in a clash between locals and Municipality Corporation officials on Saturday over the demolition of a residential colony in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
In an anti-encroachment drive in Bhopal, civic authorities had come to pull down buildings in the Minal Residency area, as they encroached on government land.
Though the police force was also deployed, locals started pelting stones and tried to intervene in the proceedings.
"Around 15 to 16 people have suffered injuries which include police officials and municipality officials. Some cars of government and Municipal Corporation were also damaged," said Rajnish Shrivastav, Additional District Magistrate (ADM).
Present at the site, Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Singh Chandel said an inquiry is on in the matter.
"Today Municipal Corporation had come here for an anti-encroachment drive in Minal Residency area. Police force was also deployed here for protection. In between, locals and some anti-social elements came and started pelting stones and had also put cars on fire," Chandel said.
" So, while conducting the inquiry we have detained some people. Some police officials and municipality officials have suffered injuries. Investigation will start once medical investigations of these people are done," he added.
Earlier, on May 7, a shopping mall in the same area was also demolished by the authorities. (ANI)
