Amritsar, May 14(ANI): The Anti Terrorist Squad of Punjab Police added one more feather to its cap with the arrest of a hardcore militant and recovery of arms and ammunition from his hideout.

Parading the arrested militant before mediapersons in Amritsar on Saturday, Amar Singh Chahal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Amritsar, said that he belonged to the banned Sikh extremist group 'Babbar Khalsa International' (BKI).

Chahal disclosed that the detained militant has been identified as Baljinder Singh.

He said acting on a tip off, the police chased Baljinder and warned him to surrender, but he ignored the police and opened firing on them, injuring a head constable who was rushed to a nearby hospital.

"Baljinder Singh, who is a resident of Chugama, is a terrorist. He has been arrested and from him we have recovered a pistol with which he fired on our head constable, who got injured. After this during further interrogation, we managed to recover one Chinese made pistol and DBBL (Double Barrel Breech Loading) gun, 18 cartridges of different types. He has also been traced to five to five incidents of looting," Chahal said. (ANI)
