Khadi business hit due to government apathy in Uttar Pradesh

Faizabad (UP), May 8 (ANI): Due to negligence of the state and Central Government's apathy, the business of 'Khadi', a traditional homespun, has hit Gosai Ganj village in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad city.

There has been a marked decrease in the production of the Khadi, as the factories are not receiving the raw material from the state government.

The skilled people in the region are facing unemployment as they are sitting idle because of the no supply of cotton and other material.

Labourers and authorities from the homespun industry accused the state.

"I am sitting idle as I don't have a raw material, the most important thing is that cotton and tape are not available here. With cotton, the spinning yarn will not work, if cotton is available then only yarn will spin," Chandrashekhar Mishra, a worker.

Meanwhile, Ramesh Tiwari, an Administrator Officer of the Khadi Mill, said: "The main reason of the idle situation is non availability of the raw material because of which the manufacturing procedure is stopped and if the procedure is not working then the production will not take place, which would further affect the sale."

"The government is not providing the balance rebate money to us, which is also a big problem. People need raw material and wages and, nothing can be done till the time money is not there," he added.

Manufacturers and the labourers urged the government many times to provide the raw material, as adequate number of people are dependent on this business, but nothing has been done yet by the government.

Reportedly, the last year annual sale of the Khadi in the region was around 5.1 million and this year sale of the Khadi has come down to 3.2 million. (ANI)
