Dhanbad, Apr 28 (ANI): Jharkhand Police imposed an indefinite curfew here on Thursday after three persons were killed and over 22 others, including policemen, injured in a violent clash during an anti-encroachment drive.
"Many anti-social elements carried out acts of vandalism, and looking at the requirement of the situation and keeping in mind the security issues, a curfew has been imposed in Dhanbad city," said Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Sunil Kumar Burnwal.
"The mob attacked the police in huge numbers, after which the police retaliated with firing. During the firing many police officials were injured, three people were killed and 22 injured, out of which two are in a serious condition," he added.
The clash reported broke out in Matkoria area of the city when the locals resisted the demolition of their houses.
According to the police, the residents, who allegedly encroached upon the land of Bharat Coking Coal Limited, had been served a notice to vacate the area and today was the day for demolition. (ANI)
