PCB demands action against CA boss over 'highly objectionable' fixing comments

Islamabad , Tue, 26 Apr 2011 ANI

Islamabad, April 26(ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board has demanded that the International Cricket Council take action against Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland for giving a damaging statement against the PCB in a recent interview.

The PCB was taken by surprise over a recent statement made by Sutherland, in which he alleged that last summer's spot-fixing scandal in England which led to bans against three Pakistan players- Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir- was the result of PCB's failure in implementing the recommendations of Justice Qayyum judicial commission in 2001.

"I would have big question marks about whether those things would have happened last year if those recommendations had been fully implemented," The Age had quoted Sutherland, as saying.

The PCB has written a letter to the ICC to take action against the irresponsible statement of Sutherland.

"As a member country of the ICC and holding an important position in Cricket Australia, such kind of public statement against another ICC member is highly objectionable, and the PCB wants the ICC to take action against Sutherland according to the prescribed rules," the Dawn quoted the PCB, as saying in the letter.

In May 2001, the Justice Qayyum Judicial Commission had made several recommendations to the PCB for checking match-fixing and betting scandals in cricket.

The then PCB Chairman Lieutenant General (retired) Tauqir Zia had claimed that he had implemented hundred per cent recommendations of the judicial commission, including getting the declaration of the assets of the players on a regular basis.

But he had no knowledge whether the PCB was still implementing that clause or not, he added. (ANI)
