Jaipur, Apr 12 (ANI): Dausa MP and Meena community leader Kirori Lal Meena and his wife Golma Devi, who is the Minister of State for Khadi in the Ashok Gehlot Government, began an indefinite hunger strike here on Tuesday demanding compensation for the families of tribes, who died of hunger in Rajasthan.
Devi condemned the Ashok Gehlot-led Government for not listening to her demands, and stated that she would continue fasting till her demands are met.
"I will do this till the government listens to the demands of all of us, who are sitting here with this board. After that only we will eat even a grain of rice. We would sit on hunger strike till then," she said.
Kirori Lal Meena said the state government is not at all paying any heed to their demands.
"The government did not pay any heed to our demands. Then, you can imagine the seriousness of the situation. As per my request, one year before the minister (Golma Devi) had wrote to the Chief Minister that the situation in tribal areas are very poor and had requested him to visit there," said Meena.
"But the Chief Minister did not go there and our demands were not fulfilled. So, we are sitting on hunger strike as there is no better Gandhian way of protesting," he added.
A group of Para medical staff beaten up by the state police while protesting also joined the protest.
They were protesting against the state government for not making them permanent in their jobs.
"The hunger strike will continue till the Gehlot Government accepts our demands and make us permanent (in our jobs)," said Anitha Chaudhary, a para-medical staff.
The couple, along with their supporters, sat on a dharna near the Civil Lines railway crossing earlier on Thursday demanding action against corrupt ministers and officials. (ANI)
