UP Police baton charge BJP activists in Ghaziabad, Kanpur

Ghaziabad, Tue, 29 Mar 2011 ANI

Ghaziabad/Kanpur, Mar 29 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday baton charged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists, who were protesting against Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Government in the state.

The agitating BJP activists were baton-charged in Ghaziabad and Kanpur cities of Uttar Pradesh. Activists were brutally beaten up by the police for agitating.

"We want to voice our concerns to the government that if the public is not safe, then we are with the people to protest the government because people have suffered under this government's regime," said Archana Singh, a regional BJP leader.

"Today, the activists from the BJP are forced to block the roads. Till the time this government is not stopped or overthrown, we will continue our agitation and we will take it forward," added Satish Mahana, a lawmaker in Kanpur.

All the arterial roads along with the highways were hit by the protest.

The BSP Government is under fire due to charges of corruption, spiralling prices of essential commodities, and the controversy surrounding BSP MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi, who was charged with raping a minor Dalit girl. (ANI)
