Dayanidhi Maran confident of DMK coming back to power

Chennai , Tue, 29 Mar 2011 ANI

Chennai, Mar 29 (ANI): Campaigning ahead of Tamil Nadu assembly polls, Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran has said he was confident that his party would win again as the State Government had fulfilled all the promises made to the common man.

"Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) regime would come back to power, as people of the state would reward the good work done by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi during the last five years," he said.

Meanwhile in Coimbatore, Murlidar Rao, All India Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party slammed the state government for gifting things to people in a bid to woo voters ahead of elections.

"So DMK or any party if they think that by distributing TVs and refrigerators they are strengthening the case. The money that they have collected from 2G or Commonwealth Games they are using for this kind of campaigning. This is unacceptable," said Rao.

He also said that Election Commission should act tough on any kind of favourism done during the elections.

"The Election Commission has to become vigilant. We are appealing to take notice of unfair sectorial promises, communal promises and also in a way corrupting promises," he added.

The DMK is facing the elections in the midst of controversy over the 2G spectrum scam which forced its party nominee A Raja to quit as Telecom Minister.

However, the BJP has fielded 190 candidates. Subramanian Swamy's Janata Party, its ally, is contesting in 10 segments.

On Monday, as many as 1,153 nominations were rejected by the returning officers across the State for various reasons during scrutiny of papers.
