New Delhi, Mar 25 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Venkaiah Naidu courted arrest near Delhi Assembly on Friday demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and action against Lieutenant-Governor Tejinder Khanna over the Shunglu Committee report that probed alleged irregularities in the conduct of the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG).
"This Delhi government is corrupt and it is proved in the Shunglu report. We demand resignation from the Chief Minister and action against all those ministers and officials indicted in the report," said Naidu before courting arrest in the presence of his party workers.
Criticizing both the Central Government and the Delhi Government for shielding those involved in the scam, the BJP leader demanded that strict action should be taken against Lieutenant-Governor Tejinder Khanna.
"The Prime Minister had promised that he will take quick action against those who gulped crores of rupees in CWG preparations. But in Lok Sabha they are not tabling the report and the Minister (Pawan Kumar Bansal) says the government is going through the report. We want to know for how long they will study it?" Naidu said.
The BJP-led Opposition earlier today demanded immediate tabling of the Shunglu Committee report and walked out of the Lok Sabha protesting the government's response.
As soon as the House met for the day, senior BJP leader L K Advani said: "The government should table the report in Parliament today itself and if possible, have a discussion on it."
Advani said three issues related to corruption were raised at the beginning of the session 2G spectrum allocation, conduct of Commonwealth Games and the Adarsh Housing scam.
"Since the talk of corruption began with the conduct of Commonwealth Games, the Shunglu Committee report should be tabled in Parliament without delay," he said. (ANI)
