Karachi, Mar 21(ANI): Following Pakistan's impressive four-wicket win against powerful Australia in their last Pool A game, former captain Imran Khan has said that the team can go on to win the coveted World Cup trophy.
Pakistan brought Australia's 34-match winning streak in the World Cup tournaments to an end on March 19, thus topping Group A. It will now play against West Indies, the fourth-placed team in Group B, in the quarterfinals.
Imran Khan, who led Pakistan to their only World Cup title in Australia in 1992, praised the team for their victory, saying: "I congratulate the Pakistan team for their tremendous win."
"It was a complete team effort and with the natural talent that the Pakistan team has, I think they can win this World Cup," he added.
Pakistan dismissed Australia for their lowest total since the 1992 World Cup before withstanding pace bowler Brett Lee's burst of four wickets to win the game with nine overs to spare.
"The mix of youth and experience is helping Pakistan," said Imran.
Aamir Sohail said Pakistan bowlers exposed the weaknesses in Australia's batting.
"During this World Cup, the Australian batting has not fired the way they would have wished. However, they have managed to get the job done thus far," Sohail said.
"Pakistan did well to bowl them out for 176," he added.
Saturday's loss was Australia's first in the World Cup since losing to Pakistan by 10 runs in Leeds in 1999. (ANI)
