In Karachi, Indian delegation calls for ending cross-border mistrust

Karachi, Sun, 20 Mar 2011 ANI

Karachi, Mar. 20 (ANI): An Indian delegation participating in a seminar organized by the Institute of Business and Technology (BIZTEK) here, has called on the governments of India and Pakistan to take note of the changing times and work towards ending cross-border mistrust that has been in existence since the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947.

The Daily Times quoted veteran journalist and former member of India's Upper House Kuldip Nayyar, as saying that the disputes between Pakistan and India could not be resolved until the mistrust present at both sides of the borders was eliminated.

He said continuous dialogue between the two sides was the only way forward.

Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research Chief Karamat Ali said people on both sides are playing the role of spectators instead of owning up to the responsibility of promoting peace and prosperity in both countries.

The Indian team also visited the Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) head office at Nine Zero and met MQM Deputy Convener Dr. Farooq Sattar, and members, Nasrin Jalil, Kunwar Khalid Younus Wasay Jalil, Raza Haroon and Mustafa Kamal.

The Indian delegation included ex-member of the Indian Parliament, Muhammad Shahid Siddiqui, social worker Sanjay Nehera, Karamat Ali and M B Kutty from the labour organisation PILER, and human rights co-chairman Iqbal Haider.

The meeting continued for over an hour and focused on the need to increase efforts to improve the relations between the two countries. (ANI)
