New Delhi/Chennai, Mar 14 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday questioned the Managing Director (MD) of the Kalaignar TV channel, Sharad Kumar, in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
According to reports, the probe agency called Kumar for questioning at the CBI Headquarters with regard to issues relating to Rs 214 crore received by the channel from Cineyug and the role of Shahid Balwa promoted company DB Realty in it.
The CBI had earlier on March 11 questioned DMK lawmaker and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi and his wife Dayalu Ammal in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
The CBI had also questioned Sharad Kumar at the channel's office last week, which is housed in the DMK headquarters.
The investigators questioned the trio regarding their stake in the TV channel which has allegedly received Rs 214 crore from a Shahid Balwa promoted company which was a beneficiary of the spectrum allocation made by former Union Minister A Raja.
Both Dayalu Ammal and Kanimozhi collectively have nearly 80 per cent stake in the channel.
Kanimozhi was also questioned about her telephonic conversation with corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, which were tapped by the income tax department.
The CBI had earlier told the Supreme Court that it will file the first chargesheet in 2G scam against former Telecom Minister A Raja and others under Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) for cheating and forgery by March 31.
Earlier on February 18, Kanimozhi refuted reports that she had received summons from the CBI in connection with its probe into the 2G scam.
"I haven't got anything of that kind," said Kanimozhi when asked about reports that CBI may question her as part of its ongoing probe into the 2G scam.
When asked about the searches being carried by the CBI at the office of the DMK-owned television channel-Kalaignar TV -in connection with the 2G scam, she said she was not aware of it.
The probe into the 2G scam has shown links between Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa and Kalaignar TV. Balwa was the fourth high profile person arrested in connection with the scam.
The others arrested in connection with the case are A Raja, his personal secretary RK Chandolia and former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behuria. (ANI)
