Brit journalist says tsunami affected Japanese town resembles atom bombed Hiroshima

Tokyo , Mon, 14 Mar 2011 ANI

Tokyo, Mar 14 (ANI): A British journalist has described the earthquake-cum-tsunami hit coastal town of Minami Sanriku as resembling the atom-bombed cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima at the end of the second World War.

The Daily Mail quoted Alex Thomspon as saying that the strong population is no linger visible, and added that almost 95 percent of the buildings have collapsed into pieces of woods, and twisted metal.

Some homes, he said, have been reduced to matchsticks and driftwood, while cars were hanging over the edge of a hill. The sight reminded him of photographs he had seen of Hiroshima and Nagasaki earlier, he said.

He said people were not crying or making fuss about the calamity, adding that the Japanese psyche is to meet challenges with silence and dignity.

He said the town's river is spilling all over the place after the tsunami had realigned its banks. (ANI)
