Benghazi, Mar.13 (ANI): A cameraman working for Al-Jazeera, an Arab satellite channel, was killed in an ambush near the rebel held city Benghazi in eastern Libya.
Ali Hassan al Jaber was returning to Benghazi with his crew from a nearby town after filming an opposition protest, when unknown fighters opened fire on the team.
Ali Hassan was killed after being hit by three bullets in the back and a fourth one near his ear and was declared dead, when he was taken to the hospital with another correspondent who had been wounded in the firing.
It was the first reported death of a journalist working for a foreign news organisation during the Libyan uprising and the attackers have not been identified yet., News.com.au reported.
Later, a large protest was organized in Benghazi in solidarity with the slain cameraman.
Some banners read: "Targeting journalists reveals the criminal regime of the tyrant." (ANI)
