Tue, 01 Jan 2008 IANS

Panipat (Haryana), Oct 1 (IANS) Traffic on the National Highway (NH) No. 1 from Delhi to all parts of north India will be affected and diverted Thursday to enable United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi to hold a rally in this industrial city of Haryana, 100 km from the national capital.

A state government spokesman said Wednesday that in view of 'Samajik Kranti (Social revolution) rally' being held here Oct 2, the Haryana police have chalked out a traffic regulation plan.

Police officials said Delhi-bound traffic coming from Punjab, Chandigarh, Ambala and Kurukshetra would be diverted from Karnal town, 30 km from here, on to the Meerut road and it would reach Delhi via Shamli in Uttar Pradesh.

Traffic coming from Delhi to northern states like Punjab, parts of Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh will be diverted from Bahalgarh in district Sonepat to the Baghpat road and would come back on NH-1 at Karnal via Shamli.

Gandhi will address a public rally being organised by the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government in Haryana where she will launch a state sponsored scheme to allot 100 square yard residential plots in rural areas free of cost to members of families of the Scheduled Castes and those living below poverty line.
