Pune, Mar 8 (ANI): On the occasion of International Women's Day today, Surekha Yadav, Asia's first woman train driver, got the opportunity of driving the Deccan Queen, one of India's most prestigious trains.
While driving the train, which runs between Mumbai and Pune, Surekha Yadav expressed her happiness.
"First of all, I would like to wish every woman a happy Women's Day and because of this day, I have got the opportunity to drive this heritage train," she said.
Travellers said they were happy that a woman was given the opportunity of driving the heritage train.
"We are happy that a woman is driving a train like Deccan Queen, which is a very prestigious train," said Neelima Gohad.
Yadav, 46, started her career as an assistant diver in 1989 and worked her way up to become a goods driver in 1996, and then a motorwoman in 2000.
Last year, she graduated to a Ghat driver. Since 10 months now, she has served as mail driver. (ANI)
