Suspended Pak pacer Aamir apologises for playing practice game despite ICC ban

Islamabad , Thu, 27 Jan 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Jan 27(ANI): Suspended Pakistan pacer Mohammad Aamir has apologised to a Pakistan cricket official for violating an International Cricket Council (ICC)-imposed ban by bowling in a club match.

Rawalpindi chief Naeem Akhtar said that Aamir "was not aware he could not compete even at club level," the Daily Times reported.

Aamir had bowled a few overs in a practice match at a Rawalpindi stadium on Monday, following which the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had asked for details of the said match from its officials in the Rawalpindi Regional Cricket Academy.

A PCB official had confirmed that under the International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations, players suspended by the body could not take part in any match, event or activity organised by his home board or its affiliated units.

"Aamir or the two other suspended players, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt, can't take part in any match, event or activity organised by the PCB or any of its affiliated units," said the official.

Meanwhile, the PCB is investigating the matter after the ICC said that it "wrote to the PCB on this on Tuesday."

A few months back, the ICC had to remind the PCB about the regulations over suspended players, after Salman Butt practiced at the National Cricket Academy at Lahore. Subsequently, all three players were barred from the nets and playing facilities at the Academy. (ANI)
