Mumbai: The recently released Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer titled Babumoshai Bandookbaaz reminds us of a very popular character called ‘Babumoshai' played by none other than Amitabh Bachchan in the classic cult film Anand.
Not a lot of people know this, but the word ‘Babumoshai' is not derived from Bengali language. It's just a combination of two words; ‘Babu' and ‘Moshai', both meaning ‘Mister'.
The word ‘Babumoshai' was used by veteran actor Rajesh Khanna in Anand and his way of referring to his doctor friend, Amitabh Bachchan as Babumoshai is fondly remembered by the audience till date.
Whereas in the Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer, the meaning that the word Babumoshai holds comes into light when Babu shares his story of how he was taught to fire a gun in the jail by a Bengali prisoner, who remembered him as Babumoshai. He took that name with him and became Babumoshai Bandookbaaz.
The team of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz decided to pay a tribute to the movie Anand by using all the songs of the 1971 classic as a background score of their film. The songs are played by the radio in the background and gives a feeling of déjà vu for sure!
Commenting on the same, director Kushan Nandy says, “Anand gave us our title. In return, we have used all its songs in different parts of the film. This is our way of saying thank you and paying homage to great cinema”.
Having received immense critical acclaim, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has become one of the most promising releases of the year.
Produced by Kiran Shyam Shroff and Ashmith Kunder, directed by Kushan Nandy and written by Ghalib Asad Bhopali, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz released on 25th August, 2017
