The actual Samsung S8 handset was displayed in a fresh leak along with its release date. The leaked image was posted by famous tipster Evan Blass on @evleaks, for which the post becomes all the more reliable. The image shows the front and back of the phone in full view.
It was unofficially confirmed that the phone will have two variants in terms of display – 5.8 inch and 6.2 inch, both being with almost bezel-less design and dual-curved Super AMOLED, Quad HD technology. The metal encased silver-greyish handset will have 83% of screen-to-body ratio and 18.5:9 aspect ratio (replacing the older 16:9). The lower part of the display will also have pressure-sensitive technology infused to it.
There is no provision for Home Button from what is seen and a single hardware button is seen on the right edge of the device and it may be for the Bixby Assistant. The virtual assistant is touted as being capable of handling complex commands in much smoother way, in comparison to those of its rivals like Apple and Google. The fingerprint sensor is on the back next to camera sensor, positioned quite high, so that it will be difficult to reach for a user who holds and operates the phone with one hand. The phone’s lower consists of a 3.5mm jack for headset and next to it, USB Type-C port.
The camera setup consists of a 12-megapixel rear snapper with f/1.7 aperture, same as it was in Samsung S7 and dual pixel, PDAF, as well as, OIS enabled. It is also made capable of a new visual search function, whereby icons on screen permits user to select the type of search that they want. This may include performing web search on photographed text with OCR or searching for products of interest on shopping sites, etc. The 8-megapixel selfie shooter will have an iris scanner alongside.
About the system, it has Android Nougat as its platform and the much hyped Samsung DeX for an extended monitor like functionality. It was reported that the some of the Samsung S8 mobile phone will be powered by its own Exynos SoC, while the others would run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The built of either of the processors will be based on 10nm fabrication method. The device will come packed with 3000 and 3500 mAh batteries for the two variants. It is also anticipated that the model will have a superb efficiency of being 20% more energy-wise, 11 % more processing-wise and 23% more graphics-wise than the S7 model. In terms of storage, the phone will have 6GB RAM/ 64 GB in-built memories and the latter is expandable up to 256 GB.
As per Blass, price of the smaller set will be €799 (around Rs. 58,100) and €899 (Rs. 65,370 approx.) for the bigger one. The phone is tipped to be launched at an event on March 29, while the sale will be initiated from April 29 onwards.
