Sony has always been focusing on the premium devices whereas Huawei owns the mid range department. This has apparently left Acer to focus on the low budget smartphones. But we must say that Acer has done a great job in coming up with low cost handsets with appealing features.
At the recently held IFA, Acer came up with its new Liquid series featuring the Liquid Z6, Liquid Z6 Plus, and Iconia Talk S. Of the three, Iconia Talk S happens to be tablet that can be used to make calls as well.
However, so far we don't have much information about this device. For now, we will be focusing on the Liquid Z6 and the Z6 Plus.
Let us see what all features these low cost devices are expected to come up with.
Acer Liquid Z6
This device is available for around €119 which is quite a reasonable amount but it has all the required features. The Z6 comes in a chic and flawless design that's made completely of matte plastic - but it looks simply great. The device has 5" regular LCD display of 720p resolution, and we believe that it's quite justified for a budget device. The device offers decent viewing angles with amazing contrast and color combination. Its screen is covered with 2.5D glass.
As for processor, it runs on the MT6737 chip clocked at quad-core 1.25GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Mali-T720MP2 GPU, along with 1GB of RAM. It's not fit for playing heavy duty games but other than that, the device is certainly good. It also has 8 gigs of expandable storage, with main camera of 8MP and 2MP selfie camera complemented with 2,000mAh battery.
It's a compact and trivial device that easily fits into pocket. The controlling is also simple as the device comes with three capacitive keys under the screen i.e. volume, power keys, and microUSB port and (still) 3.5mm jack. It is expected to release sometime in November in EMEA region for €119 ($130).
Acer Liquid Z6 Plus
Next in line is Acer Liquid Z6 Plus which stands to be an imposing improve over regular Z6. Made of metal, Z6 Plus is surely worth the price it's coming at. There are visible plastic strips covering the back to help conceal the antennas, which otherwise appears to be quite unpleasant.
Coming to the display, this higher variant has 5.5" IPS 1080p display, with an equally enhanced 2.5D curved glass. It is backed by MT6753 chip clocked at quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, Mali-T720 GPU, with 3GB of RAM. As for other features, the Z6 Plus has an expandable storage of 32GB, it also features the fingerprint sensor, has 13MP main camera and 5MP selfie camera with a massive battery of 4,080mAH.
Its IPS matrix upgrades calls for improved viewing angles and better contrast, and its colors are also punchier. It has an accented Home Key, which even functions as the fingerprint scanner.
If you talk of the device's battery, then it is sealed owing to the metal shell, and there is absolutely no problem in handling the device's controls. The device from Acer is a delight to handle owing to its metal exterior. Despite the big 5.5" display, it allows for single handed operation which is a great thing in itself. Though it has a thin shell, the curved sides ensure you have a firm grip on the device.
You will find Acer Liquid Z6 Plus coming to the market somewhere in December, and it will be sold in the EMEA regions for a price of €249 ($280).
Both the devices have potentials to make it big, and we hope that Acer will be able to rule the low costing device market.
