Zenfone Max has advanced 64-bit class 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core SoC (System-on-Chip) with 32GB inbuilt memory and 3GB/2GB RAM options.
So, let us find out if this needs to be your next buy.
Design
Following the lines of all Zenfone series, Max models also has trademark chin with concentric circles at the bottom. Its three capacitive buttons including back, home and recent are placed at the bottom and front camera is also similar in regard to the position.
If seen from the front, it would look similar to that of its predecessor, but things take a different turn at the front. It has the polycarbonate-based bright orange colored shell with a texture that looks like leather on the rear. The device offers you firm grip and the ergonomically designed tapering end allows for it to be operated single handedly.
On back side, Zenfone Max has primary camera module on top along with dual-tone LED flash placed to its left and a laser emitter on other side. Under it, you’ll find a shiny silver-colored engraving that has Ausu written. The device also has metal-based chassis around the edges, which gives the smartphone a premium look and even saves the phone from accidental falls. Power button and volume rockers are on the right side of the metal frame. On top it has 3.5mm audio jack and at bottom, it has micro-USB port with a mic beside.
Processor, RAM and Storage
It sports 3GB RAM in and 32GB inbuilt storage. It has powerful Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with Adreno 405 graphics engine. The powerful processor makes the phone carry out tasks with great ease. Playing heavy games, accessing multiple apps and other stuff causes no problem to the smartphone’s performance.
Battery
In the past, Zenfone Max version had 5000mAh cell and it productively delivered very long battery life. And the new one which has same battery capacity provides much longer run owing to Doze power optimization in Android Marshmallow.
When used moderately, it lasts more than two days. If kept inactive, it will stay awake for more than three weeks. But charging takes a lot of time. Getting it charged from 0 to 100 percent takes more than 3 hours.
Camera
Asus Zenfone Max (2016) comes with a 13MP camera with PixelMaster technology, Dual-LED Real Tone flash, laser auto-focus and a 5mp camera with wide-angle field of view. It snaps really good quality photos in day light conditions. The auto-focus feature is quick in adjusting focus on the subject and surely leaves you impressed. However, taking photos under low light doesn’t produce the desired results.
Mobile Operating System
Asus runs the custom ZenUI interface based on the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS, but adding up of needless apps by Asus does play a killjoy. It's actually annoying to find the way through the phone. In spite of huge collection of apps in the phone, the device performed fine in terms of app loading credit to authoritative Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor inside.
