Xiaomi has been successful in crafting a niche and holding a secure place in the world of smartphones. It's currently giving close competition to brands such as Lenovo, LeEco, Ginonee and others.
The company had in 2015 launched its Redmi 2 which they have now followed with Redmi 3. Interestingly, while the Redmi 3 is in market, Redmi 2 is also enjoying a successful stint despite it being an older version.
It is believed that Redmi 3 incorporates huge upgrade over the 2015 model Redmi 2, in regards to its outer look as well as internal hardware. To help you understand the two devices more clearly, we've got in the detailed information on what all changes have surfaced from Redmi 2 to Redmi 3.
Design & Display
In terms of look, Redmi 3 is totally different. It sports a metal cover on the back. The look is highly premium and is even strongly built which actually help it from accidental falls. The earlier launched Redmi 2 had lesser grip which has been covered up in Redmi 3 as it has dotted diamond like patter on its cover area. The camera location has also seen a change as in Redmi 3, it is placed at the centre to the top-left corner, with LED flash on the left side.
In Redmi 2, camera module was at the top-centre, with single LED flash at left. It had plastic cover, but it was made strong to withstand fall.
Coming to the display part, Redmi 3 comes with bigger 5.0-inch HD display with 294 ppi while Redmi 2 had 4.7-inch HD screen and owing to its smaller display footprint, pixel count was higher (312 ppi), therefore creating sharper images. Redmi 2 Prime model also has the same display features.
Processor, RAM and Storage
Redmi 3 is powered by 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 Octa-core CPU supported by 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory. On the other hand, the Redmi 2 comes powered by 64-bit class 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 SoC (System on Chip) along with 1GB RAM and 8GB inbuilt memory.
Its Prime model has a bigger 16GB internal storage capacity, like Redmi 3, however it can be expanded up to 32GB only, while the latter can be upgraded up to 128GB.
Operating System
The 2015 model runs Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6.0 OS, but with Xiaomi Redmi 3, it got upgraded to the latest MIUI 7.0 as Xiaomi has now upgraded to this version.
Camera
Redmi 2 sports an 8 MP camera with full video-recording ability at back and a 2-MP camera for selfies at the front.
The successor of it, Redmi 3 comes with 13MP primary camera which has features like five physical lenses, PDA, f/2.0 aperture HDR, full-HD video recording and 0.1-second phase focusing speed.
For selfies, it has 5.0 MP snapper with f/2.2 aperture, face-recognition feature, full-HD video recording ability and 36 smart self-portrait selfie styles.
Battery
Coming to battery, Redmi 2 sports a 2,200-mAh battery while Redmi 3 has a bigger 4,100-mAh battery which as per the claims offers 80% more talk time than its precursor.
The changes are quite commendable and Redmi 3 is indeed an upgraded version of Redmi 2. If you need an upgrade from Redmi 2, the Redmi 3 is surely the right choice!
