Geared to compete the new generation of budget smartphones, Asus in the month of April had launched its 2nd gen budget device, the Zenfone Go 4.5 in India. It has some high end features to boast and now that the smartphone is nearly a month old, we know it better if it should be your next buy.
As known, Zenfone Go is available in two models based on camera. The model with 5MP+0.3MP is priced at Rs. 5,299 whereas the other variant with 8MP+5MP back and front cameras is available for Rs. 5,699, respectively.
So, here we will focus on the 5MP model and understand the device in a better way.
Look & Design
Undoubtedly, Zenfone Go 4.5 is indeed a visually enticing device that too under the price tag of Rs. 6000. It has curved back wherein the volume rockers are placed under primary camera module. Its middle part bulges out slightly however, there is thickness at the corners that allow you to hold the device properly. The device weighs 127g and facilitates single hand use.
Zenfone Go 4.5's cover is made of polycarbonate plastic shell which gives the device a sturdy look and even saves it from drops. The metal coating offers the device a classy and premium look.
The power button is placed at the top along with 3.5mm audio jack. At its bottom, there is a micro-USB placed at centre. There is a single-grille speaker at top with camera in the right side.
Display
In terms of display, the device has 4.5 inch screen with FWVGA and 854x480p resolution. It also has capacitive buttons which include home, latest and back at the bottom. However, it is hard to operate the device in dark as it's devoid of back-lit capacitive button.
Processor, RAM and Storage
Asus Zenfone G0 4.5 (2nd gen) boasts of a decent hardware in contrast to its rivals which also fall in the under Rs.6,000 price category. It comes packed by 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core CPU supported by 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage which can be further expanded up to 64GB. The phone responds well when gaming or opening multiple apps. It also has the overheating problem which is now a common thing associated with smartphones.
Mobile Operating System
The smartphone runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based ZenUI. It comes packed with customized themes, memory cleaner and abundant ingenious features. There are some value added features but those aren't that impressive. The device is loaded with apps and which makes the navigation difficult at times.
Camera
Talking of camera, the Zenfone Go 4.5 (2nd gen) comes with a 5MP camera backed by LED flash at back and for selfies it has a 0.3MP VGA snapper. The camera surely does a decent job when used in daylight. However, it fails completely under dark light conditions.
Even the selfie camera is not that impressive as the picture quality is not up to the mark. The only good thing about the selfie camera is different beauty modes as well as the editing tools.
Battery
Zenfone Go 4.5 (2nd gen) is packed with a 2,070mAh battery which can keep your device running nearly for 16 hours under mixed use. This calls for playing games, shuffling between apps and prolonged activity. If you refrain from using the phone, the battery would last for 4 days.
Conclusion
The Zenfone Go indeed has a superb design that appeals to all; the metal coating is quite fascinating. The hardware too showcases a decent performance and it's majorly the camera which is a letdown. In whole, the device is affordable and can be a good switch for you if you had been using a feature phone all this while.
