If you had asked a year back then we would have surely named Micromax devices as the best budget smartphones to buy.
But it’s not the same anymore as now we have a tough competition out there. With Chinese companies like Xiaomi, Coolpad and others offering varied choices – user nowadays has a lot to choose from. And to strike back and give the rivals a run for their money, Micromax recent made some vital changes in its marketing strategy and presented a novel logo as well as tagline. Taking the things a step ahead, it even launched two smartphones, Canvas 6 and Canvas 6 Pro.
The Canvas 6 is now available in the market and is priced at Rs. 13,999. So let’s check out if it has the traits to win big.
Design & Build
Canvas 6 has a full-metal unibody design with chamfered edges which gives the device a stunning appearance. It has a 5.5-inch display with place for earpiece, selfie camera, notification LED and sensors. However, its display lacks the 2.5D curved design.
At the back you’ll see the primary camera below which is the single LED flash followed by fingerprint sensor. On the top edge you’ll find 3.5 mm audio jack, while at the bottom it has the speaker and micro-USB port. At left the device offers pull-out tray for nano-sim and a microSD card. Volume and power button are place at the right side.
Display
As stated above, it has a 5.5-inch Full HD display backed by 1080x1920 pixels resolution. The pixel density comes around 401ppi. Its IPS LCD panel reflects colors precisely alongside decent contrast levels, and good viewing angles. It also has a 'MiraVision' feature that lets you set image parameters such as disparity, color saturation and dynamic contrast which further helps in improving the picture quality.
Though the full HD screen enhances your gaming and video watching experience but under sunlight, even this fails to give desired outcome.
Performance & Camera
Micromax Canvas 6 is powered by MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core processor with 3GB RAM. It even has room for 32GB internal storage which you can expand up to 128GB using microSD cards. The phone’s performance is great as it offer no problem while running different apps at the same time or juggling between one app to the other. As it is 4G capable, it connects well with all other networks including 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
The 13MP primary camera with LED flash backed by phase detection auto focus surely works well and the 8MP selfie camera is like cherry on cake. Again, as it is with many smartphones, under low-light the quality of pictures does get affected.
Software & Battery
It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. It also has Micromax's 'AroundYou' feature that collects real-time information from various apps which include flight updates, close by hotels and others. You can access this service by swiping home screen to right.
The smartphone comes with 3000 mAh battery which will easily last for a day under normal use.
Verdict
As we said in the beginning of this article, competition is really tough and Micromax Canvas 6 will have to compete against quite a few Chinese Android smartphones which are not only budget friendly but are even loaded with many features.
There is no doubt that Canvas 6 is the best production from Micromax so far but when compared to other smartphones in the same price range, it doesn’t really standout.
On the whole, the device though decked with wonderful features and design has nothing in special to offer which apparently doesn’t make it worth of investing in.
