Budget smartphones have not just given us users a huge range to choose from but has even allowed enough business opportunities for smartphone makers.
The latest to join this bandwagon is a Bengaluru-based startup Creo. The startup has state that it will release a new smartphone every month and before you jump with bewilderment let us tell you that they plan to do so by tweaking in some software changes in the existing models. Keeping up their words, they've launched their first smartphone – the Mark 1.
Reports state that Creo has pinned its hopes on exclusive software features harmonized with gung ho hardware specs. In a way, it's trying to master everything when it comes to smartphones but whether or not they will succeed in the same is something we'll see with Creo Mark 1 – priced at Rs. 19,999. Let's find out:
Look & Feel
The device comes with a metal frame protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on both front and back panels. It is available in Gun Metal Black color and has 2.5D curves around its edges. The display is 5.5 inch and the device has a solid built that offers you needed grip.
Its 5.5-inch Quad HD display has resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels with a density of 534 ppi. When compared to other devices out in the market, its display does stand to be good. The viewing angles are also decent but it lags in the sunlight visibility section.
Performance & Camera
Powered by a 1.95GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, it is coupled with 3GB RAM. It comes with a 3,100mAh battery that has the latest supercharging facility. As for internal storage, it has 32GB with microSD card support of nearly 128GB. At connectivity, it favors 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Dual-band Wi-Fi and GPS.
If you're an average user, this phone will work fine for you. But for the power users, it is surely not the right choice as the device can't handle multi-tasking.
It has some wonderful software features such as the Sense, Retriever and Echo. It uses it own Android-based FUEL OS but you'll get similar experience like that if Android Lollipop. So far, we feel that it's most appealing feature is the Sense which allows you as a user to easily search for apps, messages, settings by simply double-tapping on its home button.
Echo feature as seen in the smartphone is a free answering machine that would work even without internet connection. It can let you record a 10 second voice message for voicemail. It even allows you to direct caller directly to the voice mail from call UI. Echo is even enabled with built-in call recorder.
As for Retriever, it happens to be an enhanced Android device manager that can detect phone theft. If phone theft happens it will automatically send an alert to the registered Email ID, each time a new SIM is placed id.
Coming to camera, it sports 21MP Sony IMX 230 Exmor primary camera backed by phase detection autofocus and for selfies it has 8MP front camera. It can shoot 120 FPS Slo-Mo videos in Full HD and record 4K videos.
However, shutter lag makes the camera operate very slowly. So if you are looking for a device that can click fast moving objects, Creo Mark 1 is surely not the choice.
Verdict
Creo is pitching Mark 1 primarily because it has some really useful software features and would come with monthly updates. But the price tag of Rs. 19,999 doesn't really work in its favor as user will have choice of opting for cheaper yet feature loaded devices. But we'll say that it's indeed a good start from Creo and if something can be done in the price department – Mark series will surely be in demand!
