After launching the very impressive mid-range Smart Prime 6, Vodafone is all ready with the new model - Smart Prime 7.
The device got released on May 12, 2016 and is said to be the more enhanced and improved version of its predecessor. It's cheaper and can be bought for a price of £75. With this price range, it's all set to compete with the likes of Motorola Moto E 4G, Cubot P12 as well as EE Harrier Mini.
Prime 7 is locked to Vodafone network which gives you unlimited texts; 250 minutes talk time and 250MG data for a whole month just for £16. Let us here find out what else the smartphone has to offer.
Design & Build
Indeed, Smart Prime 7 is quite appealing like the Prime 6 but there certainly some design changes. The new device hasn't got the glossy silver border as was seen near the edge of Prime 6. The Prime 7 comes with a modish gun metal grey color with brushed look. Its rear cover is darker now and comes with a fine finish. It's made of cubes and resembles QBert level. Though it remains to be removable, there's a lack in grip which makes the device very slippery.
Prime 7 is available in graphite black and boron white. It's 8mm and weighs 128g. The look in all is striking but can't call it a flashier stuff. Company's logo is placed at the back but is very small and minimalist. The headphone jack is now placed on the top and speaker is located at bottom,
Features & Specs
The screen, storage, RAM and primary camera in Smart Prime 7 are same as that of Prime 6. The major difference is in the processor. Prime 6 used Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 while Prime 7 is powered by a Snapdragon 210. Also, it is still using quad-core chip and runs at 1.27GHz.
Smart Prime 7 offers Bluetooth connectivity but with version 4.1 this time. It even provides connectivity options with NFC, GPS, an FM radio and 11b/g/n single-band Wi-Fi. As for storage, it has 8GB storage out of which 5GB is going to be available to the user. If a Micro-SD card slot is used, the memory can be expanded to 128GB. The display is 5inch backed by 720p HD resolution.
It comes with a 2540mAh battery which is non-removable. And it lasts for eight hours and 33 minutes under normal use.
Camera
The primary camera of Smart Prime 7 has 8Mp sensor with single LED flash. The camera app in the device is simple to use and the front camera can be quick launched by double pressing device's volume up button. It offers you distinct shooting modes like Scene, Panorama, Smile and Multi-exposure. The device comes with a manual mode that allows you to control stuff such as white balance, ISO and exposure.
Software And Apps
Smart Prime 7 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Vodafone makes use of the stock user interface and hasn't messed with Android. This apparently allows a good user experience and doesn't affect the Smartphone's performance.
Verdict
The new improved design of Smart Prime 7 is indeed appealing and with Vodafone dropping the price, the deal appears quite profitable. Though the smartphone is decent for the price as offered but things like Snapdragon 210 and 720p camera kill the appeal.
If you're a Prime 6 already, the upgrade to Prime 7 may not sound much convincing and we believe that you can invest on something which is more viable. But for new users, this can surely be a good bid.
