New Delhi, 30th March 2016: Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu started their campaigns with spectacular wins in Women Singles where as Manu Attri-Ashwini Ponnappa won their Mixed Doubles match in the Round of 32 of in the Yonex-Sunrise India Open BWF World Badminton Super Series 2016 – Powered by TWIST deodorant body spray being played at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi on Wednesday. However, defending champion Srikanth Kidambi, HS Prannoy, Ajay Jayaram and B Sai Praneeth lost their respective matches today.

Saina Nehwal, 2nd seeded, started with her dominating shots and gave no room to Tanvi Lad in the one-sided match. Saina, who represents Awadhe Warriors in the Premier Badminton League, registered the straight sets win by 21-7 21-13 and advanced to the Round of 16. In another Women Singles match, PV Sindhu thrashed Jeanine Cicognini of Italy in straight sets 21-8, 21-8. Sindhu, who plays for Chennai Smashers in PBL, will now face her next challenge in Round of 16.

In the Mixed Doubles, Manu Attri-Ashwini Ponnappa post an easy win over Kapil Chaudhary-Smriti Nagarkoti by 21-7 21-3. However, it was bad day for Indian men in the Men’s Singles as defending champion Srikanth Kidambi, HS Prannoy, Ajay Jayaram, and B Sai Praneeth knocked-out of the tournament.

Srikanth had an intense battle against China’s Houwei Tian and the defending champion gave a tough fight in the third set. However, Tian won the battle of the day by 21-13 17-21 24-22. In another matches, Ajay Jayaram lost a hard-fought match against Germany’s Marc Zwiebler by 12-21, 21-13, 19-21. On another court, HS Prannoy was defeated by T Saensomboonsuk of Thailand by 21-23, 21-18, 13-21. Earlier, B Sai Praneeth went down against Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia by 20-22 13-21. Praneeth, who plays for Awadhe Warriors, started with a good form against Kuncoro, who plays for Chennai Smashers in PBL, but lost out the momentum after the first set and eventually put an end to his campaign.

All the matches are being played at Siri Fort Sports Complex from 29th March to 3rd April 2016.
