Designer Pinakin Patel opened Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 16 with an installation show that celebrated the unity of fashion, design and art. A 'Midsummer Night's Dream' exchanged the two key elements of a fashion show, the models and the audience. Wherein, the models became static art installations, the audience walked the ramp.
The line did not see any iconic pieces but rather a myriad of looks that were linked together by a common aesthetic. It was about several overlapping fantasies. Lush silk organza's, sumptuous tussar georgettes and airy chiffons with exquisite and intricate hand-crafted embroidery made up the collection; and an emphasis on wear ability made Pinakin's collection feel alive and so modern-these looks were for cultured, modern and stylish women on the go, which is exactly whom we imagine Pinakin's clientele to be.
Edgy plastics, feathers and laser-cut metalwork added a modern touch to the collection. The silhouettes acknowledged the curves of an Indian woman and the colour palette complimented the Indian skin tones perfectly. An origami sari was teamed with a stylish jacket. High waisted pearl embellished skirt was teamed with a feminine cropped 3D textured top. The models showcased garments that were artfully complimented by floral and fabric hair accessories all designed by Pinakin himself. Fragile petalled flowers, a specialty of Pinakin were the stand-out point of the collection.
The show saw guests from the fashion and design world. Fashion entrepreneur and actress Pernia Qureshi was seen showing her support to the designer along with fashionista Rita Dhody, designer Nadine Dhody - Jiwrajka, Lubna Adams, Sabina Chopra, Nisha Jamval, Mohak Mehta and Pallavi Choksi to name a few.
Pinakin Patel's thorough understanding of Indian heritage, his free spirited creativity and modern sensibilities honed over the years provided the impetus for Pinakin Occasion Wear.
“Like in my homes and furniture, the body language must be comfortable and serene. I never revisit history because I am never nostalgic. The past is naturally integrated into me for my exciting tomorrows. But today is just today! Spontaneous, short lived, baggage free and alive!” says Pinakin Patel.
