After demonetisation of old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000, new currency was introduced after the announcement by the Prime Minister on November 8. People are facing hardship in getting new currency while on the other hand, the investigation agencies were seizing the unaccounted cash in new notes across the country.
Accordig to the police, cash amounting to Rs 7.92 lakh in new currency notes of Rs 2000 was seized in Gurugram.
Crime Branch found the cash in a car of Vikas Gupta, who is a resident of upscale DLF area.
According to the spokesperson of police, “The amount was recovered from Rajiv Chowk here on Delhi-Gurugram expressway. On being enquired about the money, he failed to give satisfactory answer following which the amount was seized.”
He said that an FIR will be lodged after investigation and after that he said, “the Income Tax Department has been informed.”
Earlier in the day, the Crime Investigation Department found Rs 1.5 crore in a businessman’s house in new 2,000 and 500 rupee currency notes.
New 2,000 rupee currency notes worth Rs 10 lakh were also seized from two persons on a two-wheeler near Islampur village on Sohna road on December 9.
Post-demonetisation people are facing problems in fulfilling their household needs and they were seen in long queues outside banks and ATMs, while some individuals have already got new currency notes in a huge amount.
