Hockey India wishes Good Luck to Team India for the upcoming FINTRO FIH World League Semi-Finals
Presents Unique Number Caps to players who have represented Hockey India on the occasion
New Delhi, 7 June 2015: Hockey India on the sideline of hosting a Good Luck dinner for the Indian Men and Women team ahead of their departures for the upcoming FINTRO FIH World League Semi-Finals, marked yet another first in the history of Indian Hockey wherein players of both teams were presented with caps which has their own individual Unique Number and which stays with them for lifelong.
The numbers given to players are based on each player representing Hockey India since the National Sports Federation was incepted in 2009. While Gurbaj will be the 13th player to have made it to the Indian Men team hence No. 13 being given to him similarly Deepika with the No. 7 cap would mean she is the 7th player to have represented the Country under Hockey India. While Sardar Singh and Ritu Rani being the Captain of the present individual teams, were bestowed with No. 1 as their Unique Cap Number.
Speaking on this initiative, Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, President, Hockey India said “The idea behind this initiative of giving a Unique Number to each player was keeping in mind that players across the world are very attached to their Jersey Numbers. Hence we thought to give a permanent Number to each player and which stays with them for lifelong”.
Players present at the dinner included 25 Men players which includes the 18 playing team and 24 Women including the 18 member squad for the FIH World League Semi Final tournament were felicitated with their Unique Number Caps during the Dinner.
