CIMA hosts GBC 2014 regional finals IIT Kharagpur

The Global Business Challenge (GBC) 2014 hosted by CIMA, the premier global accounting body, finished its second round of regional finals in Kolkata.

Seven teams, namely, Karma (NMIMS Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce, Mumbai), Sal- Simplicity And Logic (Podar World College- UOLIP LSE, Mumbai), The Fast And The Curious (IIT-Bombay, Mumbai), Genesis (IIT Guwahati, Guwahati), Team Assembly (IIT Guwahati, Guwahati), God Particles (IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur) and Shooting Stars (IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur) participated in the regional finals held at Kolkata.

Team GOD PARTICLES from IIT Kharagpur, comprising of four students – Vaibhav Bhargava, Naman Agarwal, Pranav Gargieya and Raunak Mukherjee, emerged as the winners from East-West region. Team KARMA from NMIMS, Mumbai and team ASSEMBLY from IIT, Guwahati, were declared the 1 and 2 runners up respectively, whereas team THE FAST AND THE CURIOUS from IIT, Mumbai was declared the team with the ‘Best Business Report'.

The event was graced by the presence of corporate luminaries like Amitabha Datta, Director Ex President, Ananda Bazar Patrika , Anish Chakraborty, Founder & Group CEO, Seacom Universities, Mr Kaushik Brahmachari , Retail Head – Samsung India, Nadeem Kazim, Board member, Exide, to name a few.

The jury consisted of eminent business leaders such as Badrinarayan V, Finance Business Partner, Barclays, Dr. Debaprosanna Nandy, Director - Research & Journal, The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Sunil Swarup, Global Business Services Leader, TCS and Soumen Mukerji from PwC.

Speaking on this occasion, Debasish Biswas, Country Head, CIMA India, said, “The annual Global Business Challenge is a great opportunity for undergraduate students from universities and colleges around the world to showcase their talent and skills in business management. This year we've seen a surge of entries, with around 500 entries coming in from across India. With a 40 % increase in case study submissions compared to last year, we are overwhelmed to see the enthusiasm amongst students. By giving students an opportunity to work in teams and exhibit their analytical proficiency and business intelligence, CIMA is opening a new path for their future careers as business leaders.”

The regional final in the North zone is slated to be held during the next week. Following the regional rounds, the winners will compete for the India finals on April 13, 2014.

The CIMA Global Business Challenge is an international business competition designed to bring out the best in the young business leaders of tomorrow. The competition is organized in partnership with Barclays, who shares CIMA’s vision of developing and nurturing young talent around the world.
