Municipal Health Officer of South Delhi, N.K. Yadav and DRM of Northern Railway, Anurag Sachan alongwith senior officers of SDMC and railways today flagged off mosquito terminator from New Delhi Railway Station from platform No.1.
SDMC has provided a truck mounted power sprayer to Railways which sprays larvicide around Railway track to prevent mosquito breeding in water. SDMC and Railways would regularly run a special train named ‘Mosquito Terminator’ to take this truck around in the Delhi Area mounted on a special kind of wagon for control of Dengue. It has got a low flat surface so that truck or any other vehicle can be mounted on it.
The engine carrying ‘Mosquito Terminator’ will pass through Delhi Sarai Rohilla, Patel Nagar, Delhi Safadarjang, Delhi Kishanganj, Lajpat Nagar, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Adarsh Nagar, Rathdhana, Shahdra, Palam and Gurgaon.
Speaking on the occasion, N.K. Yadav informed that a very large number of persons leave around Railway tracks, particularly in JJ Clusters. They were exposed to aedes and other types of mosquitoes leading to comparatively higher incidence of dengue and malaria.
The water bodies formed along the track serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The larvicides sprayed over these water bodies would check mosquito breeding in the most effective manner. So far, it was manually not possible to cover large tracks. Now the powerful sprayers will sanitized the distance of 50-60 meters from the track.
