In a major turnaround in the US open, seven-time Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer is out of the tournament loosing straight-set to Spain's Tommy Robredo 6-7, 3-6, 4-6, while his rival Rafael Nadal after struggling for win finally made it to the quarterfinals defeating Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1.
In another game Frenchman Richard Gasquet shown excellent efforts and set an epic five-setter win against Canadian Milos Raonic, 6-7, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5.
Moreover, Italy's Roberta Vinci, once again made the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-2 win against compatriot Camila Giorgi and Simona Halep bowed out with a 2-6, 6-7 loss to Italy's Flavia Pennetta.
Spain's David Ferrer and Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova won their respective matches to advance to the next round.
